Apprentice Building Surveying Assistant

We are now recruiting an Apprentice Surveying Assistant in our Winchester office to shadow and assist Building Surveyors in a mix of professional and project based building surveying work on all types of commercial property. Apprentices will be working and studying towards a Level 6 degree apprenticeship with the University College of Estate Management (UCEM).

Responsibilities

  • Shadowing and assisting on a full range of building surveying instructions on a variety of commercial properties, including offices, retail and industrial
  • Shadowing and assisting on servicing instructions which are typically split about 50:50 between professional work and project work
  • Shadowing and assisting in providing professional work to clients including schedules of dilapidations, pre-acquisition surveys, party wall awards, defect diagnosis, planned preventative maintenance reports, fire insurance valuations, disability audits, schedules of condition.
  • Shadow and support project work which can typically range from £50k to £7million where the firm performs the role of designer, contract administrator, project manager or an employer’s agent.
  • Assisting with co-ordination of portfolio instructions and undertaking other duties from time to time as may be reasonably required.
  • Providing CAD support

Requirements

 

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel
  • Good telephone manner
  • Have the ability to pick up new computer systems
  • Required to have the ability to work within a team and on own initiative
  • Must be enthusiastic, proactive and self-motivated
  • Must have strong verbal and numerical skills and good written skills
  • Requires excellent time management and general organisation skills
  • Is required to be flexible and have the ability to work under pressure
  • Have a can-do attitude

Your profile

Experience

Candidates must have one of the following:

  • 96 UCAS tariff points (2017 UCAS Tariff) or an equivalent level of attainment through recognised qualifications not included in the UCAS tariff; or
  • Completed an Advanced Apprenticeship in Surveying or an Advanced Apprenticeship in Construction Technical through which a Construction and Built Environment Diploma with a minimum DD profile was obtained or through which a Construction and Built Environment Extended Diploma with a minimum MMM profile was obtained; or
  • An equivalent qualification; or
  • A current RICS Associate qualification; or
  • Successfully completed the UCEM BSc Access Module

and

  • GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and mathematics or equivalent accepted Level 2 Maths and English qualifications
    or
  • Evidence via initial and diagnostic assessment that Maths and English skills at Level 2 exist.

Personal attributes

The ideal candidate will have the ability to build relationships at all levels and an awareness of client care. They will have excellent time management and general organisation skills, the ability to be flexible and work under pressure. Have an interest in the built environment, in particular Building Surveying.
